Singapore zoo

27 march 2012

Today we started our journey a little late - at 9.15 am only. We are having the desire to go to the Singapore bird park. We hired a taxi and enquired the driver about the details. Then he told us that the park is at some distance and there is Singapore zoo on the way, very near than the park. Since we have to visit a friend afternoon, we changed our plan and reached the zoo.
I am really bored with the zoo seeing the poor animals got trapped inside small cages apart from their natural habitats. We took the entry pass and got the map of the zoo, along with the details of the animal shows that will be staged today. We started our journey through the zoo.

Apart from my expectations it gave so happiness to me that the animals are birds are kept freely in their very carefully recreated natural habitats where  the woods are preserved as such like in a thick forest. Once we started our walk through the zoo, we could feel the freshness of the air around the forests.
The first zone within the zoo is the rainforest zone which is characterised by tall trees, grasses, bamboos etc. The primate kingdom is located inside this where we found some Siamang monkeys hanging and jumping within the canopy. While entering the zoo, we have to walk through a bridge above the treetops trail, below which we found the false gharial crocodiles resting in the calm water. Also we heard the sweet sounds of chirping birds which also have the exact feeling of a forest, as it is. Walking around there within the rain forest zone, through woods was a very nice experience. Also we saw the Proboscis monkeys and hornbills there during our walk through that cool zone.

]       Following the map, we moved to our left where we found the Otters, tapirs and the Babirusas. Very near to it, there were pigmy hippos playing  in water  and sleeping there along with fishes, turtles etc. just behind a glass wall. It was so nice to watch them very close to us like we saw the marine creatures in the Underwater world the last day.

Singapore zoo has an amazing reptile garden with a wide variety of venomous and non-venomous snakes. There we could see a large species of animals most of which I have not yet even seen in pictures. A show being conducted inside with the message to save the wild was inspiring too. Also we saw another show of the elephants of the zoo which also seems interesting.
Even though it was quite interesting throughout the zoo area, walking a lot made us to feel so tired. By afternoon we returned to home from there.
